Asli Smith is a multi- disciplinary designer & artist based in Istanbul & New York.
Asli has worked as an art director for leading branding & design studios in NYC. Her illustrations have appeared in design publications (American Illustration, Communication Arts and Print), books, window displays, and textiles. Asli holds masters degrees in Communications Design from Pratt Institute and on Media studies from the New School in NYC. She has also completed the Foundation Fine Arts program at the Parsons School of Design.
In 2016, she founded Heliotropic Studio. Taking its name from the Latin word Heliotrope which means the directional growth of a plant in response to sunlight, the studio creates works and organizes workshops on natural processes in art and design. Asli’s works take inspiration from narratives of nature and traditional forms of craftsmanship, using materials and printmaking techniques that contemplate a connection with the environment.
